Job Description:

Responsibilities: 

Barge Operations: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the floating dumb barge. 
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, maritime laws, and environmental standards. 
  • Coordinate barge maintenance and repairs as needed. 
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure the barge's seaworthiness. 

Site Supervisor Duties: 

  • Scheduling maintenance and repairs for the Barge and ancillary equipment 
  • Liaising with Clients. 
  • Completion of Daily Project Reports 
  • Liaising with relevant authorities I.E Pilots, Harbor Office. 

Rock Armour Delivery: 

  • Plan and execute the timely and efficient delivery of rock armour to designated coastal locations. 
  • Collaborate with project managers to understand delivery requirements and deadlines. 
  • Coordinate loading and unloading operations, ensuring the proper securing of cargo. 
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust schedules accordingly to ensure safe operations. 

Crew Management: 

  • Lead and manage the barge crew, providing clear guidance and support. 
  • Conduct regular training sessions on safety procedures and emergency protocols. 
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment on the barge. 

Communication: 

  • Maintain effective communication with onshore teams, project managers, and other relevant stakeholders. 
  • Provide regular updates on barge operations, delivery progress, and any issues encountered. 

Documentation and Reporting: 

  • Maintain accurate records of barge activities, including cargo manifests, maintenance logs, and incident reports. 
  • Prepare and submit reports to management as required. 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Bargemaster or in a similar maritime role. 
  • Valid Master Mariner Certificate or equivalent certification. 
  • In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations, safety protocols, and navigation procedures.
  • Experience in transporting heavy cargo, especially rock armour or similar materials.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Familiarity with coastal waters and navigation around the UK.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work flexible hours to suit tides and weather.
  • Physically fit and able to perform duties on board a floating barge.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ideally the rotation would be three weeks on followed by ten days off:
