Our Client is a reputable law firm with a strong presence in the South Lakes, Lancaster and Morecambe Bay areas, offering expert services across various practice areas. They are known for providing tailored legal solutions to our clients and are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented legal assistant specialising in private client law to join our dedicated team.

Job Summary or Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Lawyer with at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) to lead and manage a growing commercial legal team. The successful candidate will offer a full spectrum of legal services, assisting commercial clients with property transactions, business acquisitions, and corporate matters across the South Lakes, Lancashire, and wider regions. This is a leadership role with an opportunity to shape and mentor a team while providing high-quality legal services.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and progress a range of complex commercial property transactions, including but not limited to commercial property sales and purchases, leases, landlord and tenant matters, and the acquisition and sale of businesses.
  • Advise on share purchases and sales, including structuring deals and managing due diligence processes.
  • Take clients through the entire process, from initial instruction to completion, ensuring a seamless and high-quality service throughout.
  • Manage and support junior team members, trainees, and colleagues in their legal development, ensuring appropriate support and guidance is provided.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, providing clear, commercially-focused legal advice and helping to grow the client base.
  • Foster a collaborative working environment within the team to achieve departmental goals and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee the delegation of work within the team, ensuring deadlines are met and legal work is of the highest standard.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the team, identifying opportunities for growth and development.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations while managing risk effectively.
  • Participate in business development and client engagement activities to expand the firm's profile in the commercial property market.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Required:
    • Minimum 5 years' PQE in commercial property law, with a strong background in property transactions, business acquisitions, leases, and shareholder agreements.
    • Proven expertise in handling a broad range of commercial property matters, from sales and purchases to leases, business sales, and corporate transactions.
    • Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
    • Strong IT skills, with the ability to quickly adapt to in-house systems such as paperless working, audio-transcription, and precedent management software.
    • A full UK driver’s licence and the ability to attend at least one site across Cumbria and Lancashire.
  • Preferred:
    • Proven team-building and leadership skills, with a proactive approach to achieving departmental goals.
    • Interest in the mentoring and development of junior team members, with a focus on sharing knowledge and supporting their growth.
    • Prior experience in managing or mentoring a team, ensuring that legal work is completed efficiently and to the highest standard.
  • Desired:
    • Expertise in company/corporate law is a plus.

Salary

  • Salary region: £50,000 per annum+ (negotiable depending on experience)
