Job Title: Section Engineer
Location: A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross (Cornwall)
Start Date: Immediate / Ongoing – Multiple mobilisations available
End Date: Estimated project completion late 2025
Hours per Week: Approx. 45-55 hours per week (Mon–Fri)

£30.00/hr – Standard Hours
£37.50/hr – Overtime (Evenings & Weekends)

Our client is a leading civil engineering contractor delivering the final section of the A30 dualling between Chiverton Cross and Carland Cross in Cornwall. This is a 12.5km Design & Build project transforming the last major bottleneck between Redruth and Exeter. The works include construction of new dual carriageways, junctions, and associated landscaping and handback works.
We are seeking experienced Section Engineers to support the landscaping and land handback phases, along with other finishing works on the local highway network. This is a great opportunity to join a major infrastructure project nearing completion, contributing to a safer and more efficient road network for the Southwest.
CSCS card (relevant to role)
SSSTS or SMSTS (essential)
Minimum 5 years’ civil engineering experience, ideally on highways or infrastructure projects
CAT & Genny trained (preferred)
First Aid (preferred)
Safety Critical Medical (preferred but can be arranged)
Proficient with GPS, EDM, and Total Station for setting out (essential)
AutoCAD proficiency (preferred)
Able to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and programmes
Strong understanding of RAMS preparation and implementation
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Planning and co-ordination of landscaping and land handback works
Materials take-off and scheduling
Preparation of RAMS for works under your control
Liaison with site teams regarding labour, plant, and materials
Setting out works on site using GPS / EDM / Total Station
Maintain accurate site records, daily diaries, and as-built surveys
Completion of quality assurance check sheets in line with ITPs
Assist with safety and workplace inspections
Issue permits and carry out CAT & Genny surveys before excavations
Participate in site meetings concerning progress, safety, and programme
Produce site sketches where necessary and contribute to buildability reviews
Standard: Monday to Friday (typically 45-55 hours per week)
Overtime available for weekend works (advance notice provided)
Occasional night or weekend shifts may be required for road closures or critical works
Rates are for Ltd Company contractors.
