Painting Supervisors

Company Information

Our client provides framework and term contracts to the nuclear shipbuilding industry for various maintenance, refurbishment and construction projects.

Job Summary or Overview

Responsible for the supervision of personnel to achieve agreed quality standards in line with approved application procedures for the preparation of substrates and subsequent application of coatings and surface treatments through primer, stripe coating, intermediate coats and top or finish coats. Recommend methods to improve overall project supervision; equipment use; processes with the aim of reducing defects and quality concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set out operatives to daily workfaces & communicate out to paint manager, operations Manager & Client.
  • Carry out Start of shift brief with daily operatives inclusive of COSHH / RAMS requirements.
  • Raise Confined space permits where required.
  • Ensure all works comply to site inspection & test plan (ITP), Work instruction (WI) & Project specification(s).
  • Communicate daily progress, concerns & Non-conformances to paint manager.
  • Attend daily production meeting when required.
  • Supervise daily workfaces to ensure compliance to HSEQ requirements.
  • Encourage best practice in all involved work disciplines and particularly with regard to health and safety and environmental issues.
  • Support Client work pack walks when required.
  • Raise or request multi services requests where applicable.
  • Participate in process confirmation with Client (Conditions Management etc).
  • Full compliance with DIS processes & procedures in accordance with DMS requirements.
  • Complete daily timesheets for Operative(s) ready for submission to Admin.
  • Complete personal daily timesheet for submission to Paint manager.
  • Participate in daily handovers to following shift.
  • Liaise daily with stores personal to ensure stock is at a sufficient level to execute daily task(s) & is stored in a compliant manner.
  • Perform supervisory activities in accordance with the guidance specified in the relative Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and appropriate references i.e. project Specification(s); internal (Work) Instructions; industry standards; reporting formats etc.
  • Ensure overall end to end compliance with Project Specification(s) and Client requirements.
  • Ensure that material is stored and handled in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements and data sheets are available, when required, material traceability is maintained and that the correct material is used.
  • Carry out a pre-work survey of the work area to confirm Client instructions; area restrictions; access and egress arrangements; ventilation and plant requirements.
  • Supervise painting / blasting personnel to ensure “Applicators” are carrying out their works to the contracted requirements and where required, equipment being used is in a serviceable condition.
  • Ensure blast medium and coating materials conform to project specifications.
  • Ensure surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
  • Monitor performance of DIS painting/blasting personnel, ensure Applicators are carrying out their works to the contract requirements and where required ensure that, equipment is in serviceable condition.
  • Monitor QC Inspector feedback and re-coating intervals.
  • Ensure any identification marks or tags removed or over coated are replaced.
  • Prepare daily reports on agreed format(s) for the status of work and progress.
  • Take part in supporting internal or third-party audits of the Company’s quality control system.
  • Responsible for arrangement of timely inspection during all aspects of preparation and coating works and in being proactive in the prevention and resolution of non-compliance issues.
  • Liaising with Client Representative(s) for the progression of the works and reporting output.
  • Encourage best practice in all involved work disciplines and particularly with regard to health and safety and environmental issues.
  • Carry out “Start of Shift” briefings with the workforce, including communication of all COSHH and Risk Assessment information relating to the planned work scope(s).
  • Raise all required Permits for confined spaces.
  • Raise multi service(s) request(s) support requirements.
  • Participation in 8D / 5 Why reporting processes
  • Attend Daily production meeting.
  • Participate in process confirmation with Client (CDM etc)
  • Full compliance with DIS processes & procedures in accordance with DMS requirements.
  • Complete daily timesheets for Operative(s) ready for submission to Admin

Experience

  • We are looking for candidates with at least 2 years experience within the industry and have experience working within a shipyard environment.

Work Schedule/Hours (Optional)

  • Shift: 12 ON / 2 OFF
  • Weekend overtime
  • Monday -Thursday: 7.30am – 4.30pm OT1 after that.
  • Friday: Basic 7.30am -12.30pm / OT1 after that
  • Saturday: OT1 first 4 hours / OT2 for any following hours
  • Sunday Overtime: OT2
  • All new candidates will start on Dayshift, with the opportunity to transfer to Nightshift after start
