Painting Inspectors

Company Information

Our client provides framework and term contracts to the nuclear shipbuilding industry for various maintenance, refurbishment and construction projects.

Job Summary or Overview

The QC Inspector can supervise coatings operatives during remedial works; or stop work if continuance of the work would result in non-compliance. The QC Inspector shall work closely with the Coatings Paint Manager(s) and Supervisor(s).

Key Responsibilities

  • (Work) Instructions; industry standards; reporting formats etc.
  • Ensure overall end to end compliance with Project Specification(s) and Client requirements.
  • Recording of ambient conditions to ensure they are acceptable for required process output.
  • Ensure that material is stored and handled in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements and data sheets are available, when required, material traceability is maintained and that the correct material is used.
  • Monitor performance of our painting / blasting personnel to ensure “Applicators” are carrying out their works to the contracted requirements and where required, equipment being used is in a serviceable condition.
  • Ensure inspection and test equipment is serviceable before use, with “In Calibration” period current and that inspection personnel are knowledgeable in its use.
  • Ensure blast medium and coating materials conform to project specifications.
  • Ensure surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
  • Monitor dry film thickness and re-coating intervals.
  • Ensure any identification marks or tags removed or over coated are replaced.
  • After the designated curing activity for overcoating or completion, conduct a visual inspection together with specified non-destructive and / or destructive tests.
  • Prepare daily reports on agreed format(s) for the status of work and progress.
  • Take part in supporting internal or third-party audits of the Company’s quality control system.
  • Responsible for timely inspection during all aspects of preparation and coating works and in being proactive in the prevention and resolution of non-compliance issues.

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • The Quality Control Inspector (Coatings) shall be qualified to either NACE Level 2 or ICORR (Institute of Corrosion) level I / level 2 with previous coatings industry experience, part of which shall be related to a coatings inspection regime associated with a large project. The Inspector shall be knowledgeable in relation to the responsibilities listed.

Experience

  • We are looking for candidates with at least 2 years experience withing the industry and have experience working within a shipyard environment.

Work Schedule/Hours (Optional)

  • Shift: 12 ON / 2 OFF
  • Weekend overtime
  • Monday -Thursday: 7.30am – 4.30pm OT1 after that.
  • Friday: Basic 7.30am -12.30pm / OT1 after that
  • Saturday: OT1 first 4 hours / OT2 for any following hours
  • Sunday Overtime: OT2
  • All new candidates will start on Dayshift, with the opportunity to transfer to Nightshift after start
