Job Description:

We’re Hiring: Mechanical Fitter

Location: Washington, Tyne & Wear (with travel to project sites as required)
Position: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, with benefits

Are you an experienced Mechanical Fitter looking for your next challenge in a hands-on, dynamic engineering environment?

You’ll be responsible for assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing a range of mechanical systems and equipment across industrial sites. This is a varied role combining workshop and site-based work — ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving and tackling complex mechanical projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assembling, installing, and commissioning mechanical systems and equipment

  • Diagnosing and repairing faults (bearings, gearboxes, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.)

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation

  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, inspections, and modifications

  • Supporting site installations and mechanical fit-ups

  • Ensuring all work meets safety, quality, and performance standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or Mechanical Engineer in an industrial setting

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and maintenance practices

  • Confident reading engineering drawings and working to technical specifications

  • Skilled in fault-finding, installation, and commissioning

  • Self-motivated team player with strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and safe working practices

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with surface preparation, blasting, or coating equipment

  • Work in hazardous or confined space environments

  • Knowledge of vacuum recovery or dust extraction systems
