Job Description:

YOUR ROLE:

The purpose of this role is to assist the Company Project Director in the coordination of Engineering, as required during the FEED and detail design phases of the Project.

This role is reporting to the Project Director.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role will require the Mechanical Engineer to take a lead role in the performance of the following key activities, but not limited to;

COMPANY focal point within contractor’s office for rotating equipment mechanical engineering discipline. Meet regularly with contractor lead mechanical engineer to track issues to closure and oversee progress. Provide regular reports to senior management.

Supervision and directing Execution Contractor for management of Mechanical Equipment throughout the Purchasing cycle, placement of orders, Vendor design validation, Inspection & FATs, Installation phase, Site queries and safe startup. Ensuring safe, cost effective and timely delivery of the project.

Interacting with EPC Contractor(s) and monitoring their engineering design and procurement activities.

Review and comment contractor deliverables within the EDMS including Design Specifications, Datasheets, Material Requisitions and other supporting tender documents ensuring overall document submission is technically compliant.

Analysing tender results, technical bid evaluations and recommendations of Contractors to ensure design is in accordance with project requirements. Participating in Technical Bid Clarifications, Kickoff meetings and Pre-inspection meetings.

Reviewing Vendor’s calculations, drawings, fabrication procedures, Inspecting Vendor’s fabrication facilities.

Ensure equipment is fully compliant with all necessary codes and standards.

Optimizing equipment selection and materials of construction, proposing alternative technologies, optimizing sizes, weights and cost of equipment where possible.

Liaison with Regulatory authority, QA/ QC and Third party for qualifications of Novelties, Implementation of Lesson Learnt; Interface with multidiscipline project teams including engineering, operations and maintenance.

Resolve technical queries, action concession requests, review and agree variation requests and technical deviations.

Participate in technical evaluations, attend clarification meetings, design reviews, HAZOPs, HSE, FAT etc.;

Support senior project engineer by evaluating mechanical scope and costs associated with change orders.

Development of decision support packages for mechanical scope to enable selection of options and optimisations.

Novelty management – ensure mechanical engineering aspects of novelty elements of the design are thoroughly understood, documented and risk mitigations developed and implemented to closure.

Update, throughout the project, the lessons learnt register and track implementation of lessons.

 

YOUR PROFILE:

Minimum ten years project engineering with some relevant Client experience

Mining/chemical plant design experience

Familiarity with UK, European, American, and international standards applicable to the chemical industry

A combination of strong technical knowledge, analytical and innovative skills, commercial recognition, and proactive project management

Conversant with International standards and execution best practice

A strong supporter and champion of HSE standards and good practice

Good interpersonal, organization skills and ability to work independently are essential

Good communication skills both written and verbal and an aptitude for taking initiatives are essential, as is the ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams

Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders

Thorough understanding of the risks and the technical/commercial issues associated with the development of mining and chemical plant projects

Proven track record of result deliveries in challenging project environments

Strong capabilities in problem solving in complex project and business environments

Experience in working within a multi-cultural environment

Perfect English language skill is required
