Maintenance & Systems Technical Authority

Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: 2+ Year Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)
Start Date: ASAP

Land & Sea Resources are currently recruiting for a Maintenance & Systems Technical Authority on behalf of Spirit Energy to join their HSE & Assurance team.

The successful candidate will ensure maintenance practices support process safety, asset integrity, reliability and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement across maintenance systems, technical standards and engineering assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Technical Authority for maintenance engineering and maintenance management systems across the operating assets.
  • Approve or reject technical deviations, dispensations and non-conformances relating to maintenance activities and maintenance systems.
  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation, Safety Case, COMAH, SEMS requirements, company procedures and recognised industry standards.
  • Ensure maintenance strategies support process safety barriers, statutory integrity requirements, production availability and asset reliability.
  • Provide technical oversight of critical equipment maintenance, Safety Critical Elements (SCEs), performance standards and engineering assurance activities.
  • Act as the technical owner for maintenance management systems, ensuring they support maintenance strategy execution, defect management, backlog control and regulatory reporting.
  • Lead system upgrades, configuration improvements and data quality initiatives to enhance maintenance management systems.
  • Support asset integrity reviews, internal and external audits and regulatory engagements by providing maintenance technical assurance.
  • Support failure investigations and provide technical guidance during engineering incident investigations.
  • Contribute to the development of maintenance standards, engineering procedures, competency frameworks and technical capability across the business.
  • Provide constructive technical challenge and escalate issues where engineering standards, maintenance compliance or process safety may be compromised.
  • Act as Lead Investigator using Kelvin TopSet investigation techniques to support business requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement in maintenance engineering, asset care and maintenance system performance.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering or Technology discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng).
  • Extensive experience in maintenance engineering within onshore or offshore oil & gas or energy operations.
  • Proven experience operating as a Technical Authority or Senior Discipline Engineer.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance strategies, reliability engineering, safety-critical equipment, barrier management and work management processes.
  • Experience managing Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and maintenance management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation, COMAH, Safety Case, SEMS requirements and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to make and defend risk-based technical decisions within a high-hazard operating environment.
  • Experience supporting engineering assurance, regulatory inspections, audits and asset integrity reviews.
  • Experience in event management and incident investigation, including Kelvin TopSet methodology.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in Barrow-in-Furness.

Spirit Energy currently operates a hybrid working arrangement for office-based workers:

  • Four days per week in the office.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory office days.
  • The fourth office day can be either Monday or Friday, depending on team requirements.
  • Contractors may work in the office five days per week if preferred.

Please note:

  • No travel or accommodation allowance is available.
  • PAYE contractors only (no umbrella companies).
