Cost Controller

Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: 2+ Year Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)

Land & Sea Resources are currently recruiting for a Cost Controller on behalf of Spirit Energy to join their Finance team.

The successful candidate will support the Cost Control Lead in delivering effective cost management, financial governance and procurement assurance across the asset. Working closely with Finance, Procurement and Engineering teams, you will help manage budgets, forecasts, procurement activities and SAP administration to ensure accurate cost reporting and proactive financial control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Cost Control Lead in delivering cost reporting and cost control across nominated categories of spend, establishing and maintaining cost baselines.
  • Prepare monthly accruals and OPEX forecasts while maintaining cost trackers to support month-end financial close.
  • Extract, analyse and report SAP data, including Value of Work Done (VOWD), working closely with Job Responsible Engineers (JREs) and Finance teams.
  • Support variance analysis against budgets, control estimates, business plans and monthly forecasts, highlighting key trends and risks.
  • Assist in reviewing monthly contract cost reports, identifying cost variances, inefficiencies and opportunities for savings.
  • Conduct timewriting analysis across operated assets, following up on missing or outstanding timesheet submissions.
  • Support the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process to ensure compliance with company procedures.
  • Raise, review and manage Purchase Requisitions and Purchase Orders within SAP, ensuring accuracy, correct coding and timely closure.
  • Provide assurance on newly raised Purchase Orders, ensuring compliance with procurement processes and financial governance.
  • Process service entries for supplier invoices and proforma invoices within SAP.
  • Review Change Order requests, ensuring Purchase Order uplifts have been approved before work commences.
  • Support the review of rental hire usage, identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure.
  • Participate in internal stakeholder and supplier meetings to support cost control, commercial governance and financial performance.
  • Provide SAP administration support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across cost control processes.
  • Undertake any other associated duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

  • HNC in Business Management or equivalent relevant qualification, or currently working towards a professional qualification.
  • Previous experience in Cost Control, Finance, Commercial Administration or a similar role.
  • Experience within the oil & gas, energy or engineering sectors is desirable.
  • Previous experience using SAP is essential.
  • Good understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cost control and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, analysing data and supporting cost forecasting activities.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage competing deadlines within a fast-paced operational environment.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in Barrow-in-Furness.

Spirit Energy currently operates a hybrid working arrangement for office-based workers:

  • Four days per week in the office.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory office days.
  • The fourth office day can be either Monday or Friday, depending on team requirements.
  • Contractors may work in the office five days per week if preferred.

Please note:

  • No travel or accommodation allowance is available.
  • PAYE contractors only (no umbrella companies).
