Contracts Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: 2+ Year Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)

Land & Sea Resources are currently recruiting for a Contracts Engineer on behalf of Spirit Energy to join their Supply Chain & Procurement team.

The successful candidate will lead end-to-end contract lifecycle management and strategic sourcing activities, ensuring commercially robust procurement, effective supplier performance and compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end contract lifecycle, from sourcing strategy and tendering through to contract award, administration and close-out.
• Develop and implement category management strategies aligned with business objectives and operational requirements.
• Conduct category and market assessments to identify sourcing opportunities, evaluate supply options and deliver value improvements.
• Forecast future spend, identify cost-saving opportunities and drive continuous commercial improvement across assigned categories.
• Manage competitive tendering processes, ensuring transparent, compliant and commercially effective procurement activities.
• Source goods and services that deliver optimum value for money while maintaining quality, service and supply resilience.
• Develop negotiation strategies and lead complex commercial negotiations with suppliers and contractors.
• Draft, negotiate and manage contracts, ensuring commercial, contractual and legal risks are effectively managed.
• Monitor supplier performance, resolve contractual issues and build strong, collaborative supplier relationships.
• Act as the commercial interface between suppliers and internal stakeholders, challenging business requirements to deliver improved commercial outcomes.
• Identify, assess and manage contractual, commercial and regulatory risks, implementing mitigation strategies where required.
• Ensure procurement activities comply with company governance, legal obligations and audit requirements.
• Maintain accurate procurement records, contract documentation and system data to support governance and reporting.
• Promote a culture of safety, compliance and continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to HSE policies and procedures.
• Undertake any other associated duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

• Degree qualified, preferably in Engineering, Science, Supply Chain or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or equivalent is desirable.
• MBA or MSc in Supply Chain Management is advantageous.
• Demonstrable experience in category management, procurement and contract lifecycle management within the energy, engineering or industrial sectors.
• Strong understanding of contract law and LOGIC contracting models.
• Proven experience leading complex commercial negotiations and supplier relationship management.
• Experience drafting, negotiating and administering high-value contracts.
• Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance cost, risk and operational requirements.
• Experience using SAP (Procurement, Finance and GR/IR), Ivalua and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in Barrow-in-Furness.

Spirit Energy currently operates a hybrid working arrangement for office-based workers:

• Four days per week in the office.
• Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory office days.
• The fourth office day can be either Monday or Friday, depending on team requirements.
• Contractors may work in the office five days per week if preferred.

Please note:

• No travel or accommodation allowance is available.
• PAYE contractors only (no umbrella companies).
