Senior Control Systems Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Contract: 2+ Year Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 Days Office / 1 Day Home)
Start Date: ASAP

Land & Sea Resources are currently recruiting for a Senior Control Systems Engineer on behalf of Spirit Energy to join their Engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a major UK energy operator, providing high-quality control systems engineering support to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of control systems and associated equipment. The successful candidate will provide technical support across maintenance, operations, asset integrity and engineering activities, while contributing to projects, modifications, commissioning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide control systems engineering support to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of control systems and associated equipment.
  • Support and optimise preventive and predictive maintenance strategies in collaboration with Maintenance and Operations teams.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, carry out root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Ensure control systems activities comply with applicable industry standards, regulations and company requirements.
  • Support inspection, testing and condition monitoring programmes to maintain asset integrity and extend equipment life.
  • Provide technical input into capital projects and modifications, including specifications, design reviews and commissioning activities.
  • Review and approve control systems work scopes, job packs and method statements.
  • Oversee contractors and vendors, ensuring work is completed safely, to the required quality and in accordance with technical and contractual requirements.
  • Support turnaround, commissioning and start-up activities as required.
  • Participate in safety studies and risk assessments, including HAZOP, HAZID and LOPA, and support the implementation of appropriate safeguards and improvements.
  • Support change management processes by assessing the technical and operational impact of proposed changes.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, datasheets, calculations and operating and maintenance procedures.
  • Act as a Lead Investigator using Kelvin TopSet investigation techniques to support business requirements.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams to support safe and reliable production.
  • Undertake any other associated duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Automation Engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status is desirable.
  • Proven experience within onshore and offshore oil & gas operations, maintenance and asset integrity environments.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of control systems used within oil & gas production facilities.
  • Good understanding of maintenance strategies and reliability engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of offshore safety case requirements and permit-to-work systems.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, including API, ASME and ISO, with DNV knowledge desirable where applicable.
  • Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting and root cause analysis experience.
  • Experience providing technical input into projects, modifications, commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Experience overseeing contractors and vendors and ensuring compliance with technical, safety and quality requirements.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience participating in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA or similar safety and risk assessment processes would be advantageous.
