Land & Sea Resources are currently recruiting for an Engineering Authority on behalf of Spirit Energy to join their HSE & Assurance team.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in providing technical assurance, governance and engineering leadership across the asset lifecycle. The successful candidate will ensure engineering activities remain safe, compliant with regulatory requirements and aligned with company standards while driving continuous improvement in engineering governance, technical assurance and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the designated Engineering Authority with authority to approve, challenge or reject engineering decisions.
• Act as custodian of engineering standards, discipline documentation and engineering governance, ensuring compliance with company requirements and recommending approval of derogations and dispensations where appropriate.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve the Technical Authority Framework.
• Maintain overall ownership of the scope and quality of Safety & Environment Critical Element (SECE) Performance Standards.
• Ensure individual Performance Standards are correctly allocated to the appropriate Technical Authorities.
• Identify, assess and manage technical risks, ensuring risks are reduced to ALARP principles.
• Lead and contribute to hazard identification studies and technical risk assessments.
• Ensure engineering decisions support safe operations, asset integrity and lifecycle performance.
• Act as the escalation point for technical non-conformances, deviations and engineering issues.
• Support incident investigations by providing technical judgement and undertaking root cause analysis using recognised investigation methodologies, including Kelvin TopSet.
• Manage engineering contracts and vendor performance to ensure quality and compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering governance, technical assurance processes, standards and engineering practices.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance across engineering, operations, maintenance and assurance teams.
• Undertake any other associated duties as reasonably required.

Requirements

• Degree qualified in an Engineering or Technology discipline.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng).
• Proven experience operating in a senior engineering, technical assurance or Engineering Authority role.
• Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards, regulatory frameworks and industry best practice.
• Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions within a high-hazard operating environment.
• Extensive experience in technical risk management, engineering governance and asset lifecycle assurance.
• Deep technical expertise within an engineering discipline supported by sound engineering judgement and professional integrity.
• Experience developing and implementing Technical Authority Frameworks and engineering assurance processes.
• Strong understanding of Safety & Environment Critical Elements (SECEs) and Performance Standards.
• Experience leading hazard identification, technical risk assessments and engineering reviews.
• Experience in event management and incident investigation, including Kelvin TopSet methodology.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing engineering service contracts and third-party suppliers.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in Barrow-in-Furness.

The organisation currently operates a hybrid working arrangement for office-based workers:

• Four days per week in the office.
• Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory office days.
• The fourth office day can be either Monday or Friday, depending on team requirements.
• Contractors may work in the office five days per week if preferred.

• No travel or accommodation (lodge) allowance is available.
• PAYE contractors only (no umbrella companies).
