Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria
Contract: 2-Year Contract
Working Pattern: Hybrid (4 days office / 1 day home)
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: DOE (PAYE)

About the Role

Land & Sea Resources are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK energy operator for an experienced Technical Safety Lead to join their HSE & Assurance team in Barrow-in-Furness.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the integrity and process safety of major gas production assets during the final operational phase of the Morecambe Hub. The successful candidate will lead technical safety activities, ensure compliance with major accident hazard legislation, and provide expert technical assurance across the business.

This is a 2-year contract with an immediate start available, aligned with a new organisational structure launching in October 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Technical Safety Technical Authority for the Morecambe Hub assets.
  • Lead and manage all technical safety activities to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Provide guidance on process safety, engineering philosophies, and company standards.
  • Maintain and update Safety Cases and COMAH reports.
  • Ensure HAZOP, HAZID, HIRA and ENVID studies are completed and actions are effectively managed.
  • Lead engineering peer reviews to support technical integrity across the business.
  • Deliver the Technical Authority framework for the Technical Safety discipline.
  • Manage contractor performance, quality assurance and technical compliance.
  • Support competence assurance for the Technical Safety function.
  • Lead incident investigations using Kelvin TopSet methodology where required.

Requirements

Essential

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering or Technology discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Extensive experience in a Technical Safety Lead position.
  • Strong knowledge of COMAH regulations, Safety Cases and Major Accident Hazard legislation.
  • Experience working within operator or client organisations managing contractors.
  • Excellent understanding of technical safety engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading incident investigations using Kelvin TopSet or equivalent methodology.

Working Pattern

  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • Four days per week in the Barrow office.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are mandatory office days.
  • The fourth office day can be either Monday or Friday.
  • Full-time office working is also available if preferred.

  • Contract duration: 2 years
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Inside IR35 (PAYE)
  • No umbrella companies.
  • No travel or accommodation allowance is available.
