Temporary Ballot Processing Assistants Required – Election Project

We are currently recruiting Temporary Ballot Processing Assistants to support an upcoming election system testing project in Edinburgh. This short-term role will involve assisting with the preparation of ballot papers used to test an electronic ballot scanning and counting system ahead of the Scottish Local Government Elections 2027.

  • 18th, 19th, 20th March

  • 24th, 25th, 26th March

  • 31st March, 1st April, 2nd April

  • 7th – 10th April

Working Hours

9:00am – 5:30pm

Pay Rate

£15.00 per hour (PAYE)

About the Role

This project supports the testing of an electronic ballot scanning and counting system that will be used for the upcoming Scottish Local Government Elections 2027.

As part of the preparation process, approximately 120,000 test ballot papers will be produced and used to ensure the system can correctly scan and interpret votes.

Successful applicants will assist with marking and preparing these test ballot papers based on specific instructions and testing scenarios. You will work as part of a small team and all tasks will be supervised by experienced staff. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marking blank test ballot papers following clear instructions

  • Ensuring markings are accurate and consistent

  • Working as part of a small team during the preparation process

  • Supporting the testing preparation under supervision

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to follow instructions carefully

  • Comfortable carrying out repetitive tasks with accuracy

  • Good teamwork skills

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Must have the right to work in the UK
